Paris Olympics 2024 Opening Ceremony Highlights: The Paris Olympics 2024 got off to a glittering ceremony on Friday. An unprecedented and ambitious show with close to 7,000 athletes paraded down the River Seine past the historic monuments of the French capital. The ceremony saw heavy rain too but it failed to dampen the spirit of the thousands present. The Indian contingent was led by PV Sindhu and Sharath Kamal. For the first time in Olympic history, the opening ceremony took place outside the main stadium, with some 300,000 people watching in person from specially built stands on the river banks, and another 200,000 from overlooking balconies and apartments. Olympics 2024 Live: The Olympic flams has been lit!
The Olympics flame has been lit. France’s most-decorated track athlete Marie-Jose Perec and three-time Olympic gold medal-winning judoka Teddy Riner jointly lit the Paris Olympics cauldron on Friday.
Perec and Riner strode up to the cauldron which formed the base of a hot air balloon in the Tuileries Gardens after it had been transported from the ceremony at the Eiffel Tower by boat and by a succession of French sports figures.

Opening Ceremony Live Updates: World leaders present
Not only athletes, World leaders began arriving at President Emmanuel Macron’s Elysee Palace office Friday afternoon, an AFP journalist saw, ahead of the Paris Olympics opening ceremony in the evening. Macron and his wife Brigitte welcomed the guests on a red carpet in the courtyard of the Elysee, where they are holding a reception for around 85 heads of state or government before the ceremony on the River Seine.

Olympics 2024 Live: Food not adequate!
An interesting development – away from the opening ceremony – Despite stories of Michelin-starred chefs helping prepare the menus in Paris, Andy Anson, the British Olympic Association’s chief executive, has complained that the food in the Olympic Village “is not adequate,” with complaints over small portions and a lack of high-protein foods. “There are not enough of certain foods: eggs, chicken, certain carbohydrates,” Anson told ‘The Times’ newspaper.

Olympics 2024 Live: Athletes’ parade
The six kilometer parade began from Austerlitz bridge and 85 boats carried more than 6800 athletes from 205 nations and one Refugee Olympic team, with a good number of them skipping the incredible show due to their competitions on Saturday.
The Indian contingent is being led by two flag-bearers — two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and table tennis legend A Sharath Kamal.
