The Grammy-winner, 43, tied the knot with Virginia entrepreneur Taleo Coles in a “chic, classic” ceremony held at the luxury Le Tesserae venue in Houston, Texas on Saturday, July 27, in front of hundreds of their closest family and friends.

“Marriage was something we both wanted,” Luckett tells PEOPLE. “It means everything to have a partner who loves me and my kids deeply. This love feels like rest.”

Luckett and Coles initially met through a mutual best friend before they eventually began dating. After two years together, the entrepreneur popped the question to the singer and actress in Sedona, Arizona on March 10, 2024.

To celebrate their love, the R&B singer says she and Coles always envisioned a “three day party” — complete with a welcome party at a speakeasy in the C. Baldwin Hotel the day before the ceremony and an intimate at-home BBQ the day after — to “celebrate with our loved ones, friends and family.”

For the wedding ceremony, the pair exchanged vows in front of 200 guests, including Beyoncé’s mom Tina Knowles, Toya Johnson and rapper Bun B.

“We started out with a guest count of 70 and that changed once we decided to wed in my hometown of Houston. We also knew with Taleo being the first grandchild of his family to get married, it would be tough to keep it at that number,” Luckett says. “While increasing the number, we still wanted it to feel intimate and cozy and I think we accomplished that with the layout and decor.”

She explains they envisioned a “clean, chic and classic look” for the wedding with white decor adorning the venue and a black attire dress code for guests. The grand bridal entrance also featured a ballerina performance.

The bride walked down the aisle to a live performance of “Have You Ever Been in Love” by Hailey Kilgore in a wedding dress from Black designer Alonuko Bridal — something that was a must for Luckett.

“I wanted to incorporate some Black girl bridal magic, so I went with two Black female designers for both my wedding dress and reception dresses,” she recalled, adding that her reception dress was designed by Ese Azenabor.

While the ceremony held several classic elements, the couple opted to tailor the event to their own love story with handwritten vows. Their wedding officiant Rev. Devon Franklin also added in “fun details” from their relationship — which they communicated to him through “premarital” counseling — and he used a “unique style” to convey it to their family and friends.

Other special parts of the ceremony included a poetry reading by Coles’ sister, Christie Purcell, and a scripture reading by Aqueela Maddox. To complete their ceremony, the couple also lit the Unity candle.

During the couple’s wedding reception, the newlyweds made sure to get everyone dancing with music from DJ E Clazz and Luckett’s longtime friend and Grammy-winning producer and DJ Bryan Michael Cox. They also shared their first dance to “If This World Were Mine” by Luther Vandross.

They opted to do a plated dinner — and even made sure their guests left with a Trill Burger — and celebrated the nuptials with a six-tiered cake with four different flavors including Luckett’s favorite a champagne cake with buttercream icing,

The “Torn” singer shares that her wedding ceremony to Coles was the perfect way to honor their years-long love story.

“I still can’t believe how peaceful the day was,” she tells PEOPLE. “Everything just flowed for the most part. This wedding was magical. You could feel genuine love in that room.”

“It was better than we ever could’ve imagined,” she added. “A dream come true!”
