Description

This vibrant, easy Chipotle Lime Grilled Tofu Steaks recipe is vegan and gluten free, and just packed with powerful taste and nutrition. You can make it without added oil, salt or sugar for your whole foods plant based cooking style.

Tofu:

  • 1 (16-ounce) package extra-firm tofu, drained well (for best results, press the tofu, learn how here)

Chipotle Lime Marinade:

Garnish

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 lime, sliced into wedges

  1. Slice well drained tofu (for optimal results, try pressing tofu—learn more here) in 8 equal pieces to create rectangles about 1 inch thick (or steaks). Place in a shallow dish.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together: chopped chipotle chiles in adobo plus sauce, lime juice (from 1 lime), olive oil (optional), agave syrup (optional), cumin, coriander, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt (optional). Makes about ½ cup marinade.
  3. Drizzle marinade over the tofu steaks. Cover and refrigerate for 1-2 hours, turning tofu to absorb marinade about halfway through marinating time.
  4. To cook, heat a grill over medium-high heat. Remove tofu steaks out of marinade and place on grill. Reserve remaining marinade to brush over steaks while cooking. Cook for about 15 minutes, turning over about halfway through and brushing with remaining marinade, until golden brown and slightly crisp on the outer surface.
  5. Remove from grill and place on a small serving platter. Garnish with chopped fresh cilantro and lime wedges. Serve immediately.
  6. Makes 4 servings (2 pieces per serving).
