Bob Odenkirk Returning For ‘Nobody 2’; Timo Tjahjanto Directing

EXCLUSIVE: 2x Emmy winner Bob Odenkirk has closed a deal to return for Nobody 2, a sequel to the acclaimed 2021 action thriller from Universal Pictures and 87North.

Timo Tjahjanto (The Night Comes for Us) will direct from a script by Derek Kolstad (John Wick, Nobody), Aaron Rabin (Jack Ryan), Odenkirk, and Umair Aleem (Kate). Kelly McCormick and David Leitch are returning to produce through 87North’s first look deal with Universal, as are Odenkirk, Marc Provissiero through Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment, and Braden Aftergood through Eighty Two Films.

Slated for release on August 15, 2025, the film will be overseen for Universal by Executive Vice President of Production Development Jay Polidoro and Director of Development Tony Ducret.

While plot details for the sequel are being kept under wraps, the original film centered on Hutch Mansell (Odenkirk), a seemingly ordinary suburban father who suppresses his past as a deadly government assassin. After a home invasion shakes his family, Hutch’s dormant rage and skills resurface, propelling him into a violent conflict with a Russian drug lord.

Directed by Ilya Naishuller from a script by Kolstad, the darkly comedic and compellingly choreographed actioner debuted at No.1 at the domestic box office, grossing over $57M worldwide upon its release by Universal amid the transition out of the Covid pandemic, in March 2021.

Best known for his role of Saul Goodman in AMC’s Breaking Bad and prequel Better Call Saul, Odenkirk most recently exec produced and starred in the college-campus dramedy Lucky Hank, also for AMC. This fall, in addition to filming Nobody 2, he’ll re-team with Kolstad on Normal, a crime thriller to be directed from Kolstad’s script by Ben Wheatley (Free Fire).

A rising filmmaker out of Indonesia, Tjahjanto got his start by directing V/H/S/2 segment “Safe Haven” alongside Gareth Evans. He went on to direct the thrillers The Night Comes for Us and May the Devil Take You, both of which premiered at Fantastic Fest and are currently on Netflix. Among the director’s other upcoming projects is the Indonesian action thriller The Shadow Strays.

The creator and writer of the John Wick franchise, Kolstad has in the past few years adapted The Man from Nowhere for New Line and Splinter Cell for Netflix; created Nobody for Universal and Die Hart for Quibi/Roku; Co-EP’d Marvel/Disney+’s limited series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and produced The Princess for 20th/Hulu and The Continental for Lionsgate/Peacock. In addition to Nobody 2, he currently has projects in active development at Lionsgate, Netflix, Amazon, Sony, Paramount, AGBO, Apple, Infrared/Film Nation, 20th, and CBS.

Odenkirk is represented by Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole; Tjahjanto by WME, Entertainment 360, and attorney Marios Rush; Kolstad by UTA, Circle Management + Production, and Behr Abramson Levy Johnson; Rabin by Grandview, CAA, and Gendler, Kelly & Cunningham; and Aleem by Verve and attorney Marios Rush. 87North is with CAA and JSSK.
